Participants of a march against Merkel’s immigration policy in Kandel have been attacked by Antifa counterprotesters. On Saturday, the protest movement “Kandel is Everywhere” organised another demonstration in the city were a German teen girl was murdered by an Afghan migrant.
The anti-migration movement’s protest started at 3 pm in Kandel. The protesters demanded freedom of expression, immediate closure of the borders and deportation of all illegals.
A counter protest in the same town, called “We are Kandel”, was supported Germany’s socialists and Greens. Several Antifa groups were also present. While both protests started peacefully things became violent after a while.
A police report reads:
Later in the rally, there were several violent left-wing attacks against police officers, so pepper spray and batons had to be used for defence. Three police officers were slightly injured while remaining fit to serve. Around 250 left-wingers had to be stopped for a period of about an hour on the corner of Dierbachweg and Bahnhofstrasse, as out of this group fireworks were thrown at police officers and the emergency services were also attacked.
On social media several Antifa groups announced their appearance and looking at the footage several Antifa members were involved in the violence. One group said:
“Dear Anti-Fascists, dear friends, on 24 March. Once again, Kandel becomes a staging area for blue-brown hunters. For the first time in Kandel we have the chance to meet the right number at eye level and thus send a clear signal: TOGETHER AGAINST THE FAR RIGHT!”
While almost all other anti-Merkel protests in Germany were peaceful, leftist groups again showed they prefer violence above democratic and peaceful ways of protesting.
