In a tweet on 9 June, President Donald J. Trump has not only given his support of the new Prime Minister of Italy, Giuseppe Conte, he stated that he is “a really great guy” who will be honoured shortly at the White House in Washington, DC.
Conte was the anti-establishment Five Star Movement and Lega’s choice for PM. Trump and Italy’s new Eurosceptic regime is being hailed as a potential new alliance and can only be a friend to Brexit Britain.
President Trump is liked in Italy as well. During Trump’s election campaign in 2016, Matteo Salvini, Italy’s current Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, said he would vote for him.
