Who voted for you? Who are you to lecture us?

Yesterday Voice of Europe reported about how a draft report of the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) attacked Hungary on its ‘non-European’ values.

In his turn, Hungary’s Foreign Minister, Peter Szijarto, decided to hit back and ask Judith Sargentini, the leftist author of the report:

“The Dutch Liberal representative woman was saying that we only temporarily represent the Hungarian people. I would like to point out that we just won our third consecutive term at the election, with no less than a two-thirds super-majority!”

Szijarto added:

“You ask us how we represent the Hungarian people, and what kind of authorisation we have. I could also ask you what percentage of the European people voted for you, so that you could lecture the Hungarian people in the name of Europe.”
